The heart has four valves: the tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral and aortic valves. To keep blood flowing in the correct direction, these valves have tissue flaps (leaflets or cusps) that open and close during each heartbeat. In heart valve disease, one or more of the valves in the heart does not function properly.

The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the human body. It originates from the left ventricle of the heart and extends down to the abdomen, where it splits into two smaller arteries. Several arteries extend from the aorta to deliver blood to various regions of the body.

A pneumothorax (collapsed lung) occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall. This air pushes on the outside of the lung and makes the lung collapse.

Muscle fatigue is a typical symptom that decreases muscles' ability to perform over time. It can be temporarily associated with a state of exhaustion, often following strenuous activities or exercise. However, if muscle fatigue persists or progresses from localized to generalized weakness, it might indicate the abnormalities of nerves and muscles (neuromuscular system) which is known as “Myasthenia Gravis” or shortly called “MG”.

There are four heart valves that keep blood flowing in the correct direction. Each valve has flaps that open and close once during each heartbeat. If the valve is damaged or diseased, it will not open or close properly, disrupting the blood flow from your heart to your body. Heart valve disease may be present at birth. It can also occur in adults due to many causes and conditions, such as infections, heart diseases, and older age.

Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is minimally invasive thoracic surgery. During a video-assisted thoracic surgery procedure, a tiny camera and surgical instruments are inserted into your chest through a small incision in your chest wall.

Lung cancer is the second leading cause of death and the leading cause of cancer death in Thailand.

The heart is one of the most important organs in the entire human body. The common heart diseases are aortic aneurysm and valvular heart disease. These conditions are common in elderly and the incidence is rising in the middle aged population.

In the past, heart or cardiac surgery required heart-lung bypass machine to divert blood vessels from the heart. This process stops your heartbeat resulting in hypoxia and ischemia which affect the functioning of your lungs, kidneys and brain.

Age related, or degenerative valvular heart disease, represents the most common etiology of aortic stenosis in the elderly population. It occurs when the heart's aortic valve narrows. This narrowing prevents the valve from opening fully, which reduces or blocks blood flow from your heart into the main artery to your body and onward to the rest of your body. When the blood flow through the aortic valve is reduced or blocked, your heart needs to work harder to pump blood to your body. Once severe obstruction has developed, death occurs within 3 years unless the aortic valve is replaced.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we have the perfect opportunity to show some love to our hearts so they can continue to take care of us in the years to come.

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is a surgery performed in patients with significant narrowing and blockage of heart arteries. It is best performed in patients with multiple blockages in multiple locations. This can relieve chest pain and prolong life.
