1. Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
Symptoms: Red eyes, blurred vision, itchiness, eye pain, excessive discharge.
How it spreads: Contact with an infected person’s tears or eye discharge — typically via fingers touching the eye or contaminated surfaces. Symptoms appear within 1–2 days.
2. Chickenpox
Symptoms: Rash and red spots across the body, itchiness, fluid-filled blisters.
How it spreads: Coughing, sneezing, breathing near an infected person, or sharing personal items such as towels, blankets, or bedding.
3. Diarrhea
Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, loose stools more than 3 times per day.
How it spreads: Bacterial infection, bacterial toxins, or viral infection.
Prevention: Wash hands before handling food and after using the toilet. Eat freshly cooked, clean food — remember: eat hot, use serving spoons, wash hands.
4. Respiratory Tract Infections
Symptoms: High fever, headache, chills, muscle pain, fatigue, cough, runny nose, sore throat.
How it spreads: Person-to-person via coughing, sneezing, or close contact in crowded places such as schools, factories, temples, and prisons.
Prevention: Get vaccinated (influenza vaccine, COVID XBB vaccine). Wear a mask in crowded areas, wash hands regularly, and stay home when symptomatic.
5. Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD)
Symptoms: Fever lasting 2–4 days, rash on palms and soles, mouth sores, reduced appetite, muscle aches.
How it spreads: Direct contact with saliva, mucus, feces, or blister fluid. More common in children under 10.
Prevention: Vaccination against Enterovirus 71 (EV71) to reduce the risk of infection.
6. Dengue Fever
Symptoms: Drowsiness, fatigue, headache, body aches, high fever, chills, loss of appetite, vomiting, flushed face, dry mouth, red spotted rash.
How it spreads: Transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito.
