Midlife is a period when both women and men may experience changes in hormones and overall health.

Bone health:

Vaginal dryness and sexual health:
As estrogen levels decline, tissues in the vagina and urinary tract may become thinner, drier, and less elastic.
These changes are collectively known as Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) and may cause:

What Is “Male Menopause”?
Men do not experience menopause in the same biological sense as women.
However, testosterone levels may gradually decrease with age.
It is important to understand that a single low testosterone blood test is not enough to diagnose age-related testosterone deficiency or “male menopause.”
A diagnosis generally requires both:
Compatible symptoms + consistently low testosterone levels confirmed by appropriate testing
What Are the Symptoms of Low Testosterone?
Some of the more characteristic symptoms include:
Sexual Symptoms
- Reduced libido or sexual desire
- Erectile dysfunction, or increased difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection
Physical Changes
- Reduced muscle mass
- Decreased muscle strength
- Increased body fat
Mood and Cognitive Changes
- Fatigue or reduced energy
- Reduced motivation
- Depressed mood or increased irritability
- Difficulty concentrating or staying focused
Can Hormone Replacement Therapy Help?
The answer is yes—for appropriately selected individuals.
For women, Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) is one of the most effective treatments for vasomotor symptoms, such as hot flashes and night sweats.
Hormonal treatment can also help improve symptoms associated with Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause, depending on the type of treatment and the individual patient’s needs.
Does Every Man With Low Testosterone Need Testosterone Treatment?
No.
Even if testosterone levels are found to be low, treatment is not automatically required.
If there are no relevant symptoms, the doctor may instead recommend further evaluation to determine the underlying cause, repeat hormone testing when appropriate, and monitor the condition over time.
Hormonal changes are only one part of midlife health. Sleep, mental well-being, bone health, cardiovascular risk, sexual health, muscle strength, body composition, and lifestyle factors should all be considered as part of a comprehensive health assessment.
