Because our heart is only one

Caring for the heart is therefore important

When we look at the statistics from the World Health Organization, it is shocking! Thailand has 2 people dying from “heart disease and vascular disease” every hour. In numbers, this is approximately 37,000 people per year, which is considered high.

Is it time? for all of us to start realizing and paying attention to caring for our heart health

On the recent “World Heart Day,” the World Heart Federation, or World Heart Federation, launched the “USE ❤️ KNOW ❤️” campaign to raise awareness and understanding about heart health and aim to reduce the rate of heart disease and vascular disease in the future. This year, we had the honor of Dr. Veerachai Nawarangsi, Heart Surgeon, the top from Bangkok Heart Center Chiang Mai, who revealed the successful formula tips that everyone can apply according to the Heart-Healthy Lifestyle lifestyle to take care of the heart “USE ❤️ KNOW ❤️” as follows:
    1. Use Heart to Eat Well
    • Reduce drinks with sugar and sweet fruit juices, opt for water or sugar-free fruit juices, and eat fresh fruit for better health.
    • Eat a balanced diet from all five food groups, choose foods that are “good for the heart”
    • Reduce alcohol consumption or control the quantity of drinking to be appropriate
    • Reduce sweet, fat, salty, and processed foods, emphasize self-preparation
    • Try cooking new heart-healthy recipes, which are now easily accessible online
    2.     Use Heart to Move the Body
    • Find activities that involve body movement, starting from moderate level for at least 30 minutes 5 times a week, such as exercising, walking, housework, and dancing.
    • Seek new activities, such as stair walking or cycling instead of driving on a nice day
    • Use modern devices to count steps, like a Smart Watch, to track walking statistics, heart rate, etc.
    3.     Use Heart to Quit Smoking
    • Quitting smoking for 2 years can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
    • Quitting smoking for 15 years lowers the risk of heart and vascular disease to the same level as non-smokers
    • Even if you don’t smoke, you are at risk of heart disease if you are exposed to secondhand smoke
    • Stop smoking for better health and reduce the risk of heart and vascular diseases
    • Book an appointment with our specialists to find an appropriate smoking cessation method for each person
How is it…not as difficult as many might think, right? After reading, we can adapt these 3 tips to suit the lifestyle of each person. Additionally, there is a tool we recommend, which is the “Thai CV risk score” designed by the team from Thai Health Promotion Foundation in collaboration with several public health institutes. The results from this assessment can predict the risk of disease for up to 10 years.
The results from the evaluation are divided into 3 risk levels:
    1. High Risk: It is advisable to contact a specialist doctor as soon as possible to reduce the risk of developing heart and vascular diseases
    2. Medium Risk: It is recommended to adjust lifestyle habits like diet and exercise and to undergo preliminary heart evaluations, which are divided into 2 methods
      1. Heart Function Test with a Treadmill Exercise Stress Test (EST) (EST), which will test heart condition during exercise to check for ischemic heart conditions. In some cases, resting ECGs might not show abnormalities, but treadmill tests might reveal them. Blocked coronary arteries can lead to insufficient blood flow to the heart muscle, causing ECG changes, aiding doctors in diagnosing heart disease risk.
      2. Heart Function Test with High-Frequency Sound Reflection Echocardiogram (Echo): An ultrasound heart test sending safe sound waves to the heart’s position, reflecting signals back to render 2-3D images, for real-time heart function assessment. This test aids in accurate heart disease diagnosis, suitable for patients with risk factors, abnormal heart sounds detected by a doctor, or symptoms of diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic kidney failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic lung disease.
    1. Low Risk: Your body is well-taken care of and continued maintenance is recommended, don’t forget to have annual health check-ups, including regular heart health checks with a specialist or self-assessing heart disease risks easily because “prevention before disease is beneficial.”
