Women should firstly know the “nerve sheath”, which plays an important role in conducting nerve impulses throughout our body. Whenever there is inflammation or any abnormality in the nerve sheath, the nerve conduction of such organ may be impaired. It is often a impairment of the vision, body movement and feeling. These syndromes are known as “Demyelinating Disease”, which many people may not be familiar with because this is a disease that can only be diagnosed by a medical professional doctor only!

It is commonly found in working women.

There are many symptoms are found in the patients with Demyelinating Disease. Here we will focus on Multiple Sclerosis, or simply called as “MS disease”, which is often found in “Youth” or “working age” female patients with the age range between 20-40 years. Therefore, women should observe the symptoms.

    • Limp weakness.
    • Blurred vision.
    • Eye pain, pain when goggling eyeballs.
    • Difficulty in body balancing.
    • Difficulty speaking or swallowing.
    • Abnormal urinary tract or stools.

    Acute exacerbations and recurrences.

Patients with Demyelinating Disease often have symptoms that are acute with early onset within a few hours or as late as a day only. Acute symptoms may gradually subside until they return to normal, or almost the same function, and then recur. Most of the patients with multiple sclerosis or MS will develop progressive symptoms, that is, the symptoms will gradually become progressively heavier. It could happen in just a week, or it could take months.

    Treatment guidelines.

Although the symptoms still cannot be cured. The patients who find symptoms and visit a doctor for a quick diagnosis will help the patient to have a better quality of life, reduce inflammation that does not escalate into severe symptoms which may lead to loss of ability to work and carry out daily activities as well as reducing the likelihood of long-term disability.

Specialized doctors have guidelines for the care of multiple sclerosis patients with acute exacerbation by using high-dose steroids. There are several retrospective comparative studies showing the benefit of high-dose parenteral steroid therapy. If exacerbations are severe or unresponsive to intravenous high-dose steroids, several treatment options can be considered.

    • Plasma Exchange Comparative studies were performed in both MS patients and in patients with exacerbation of CNS demyelination with severe symptoms and not responding to steroids, it was found that patients who are treated with Plasma Exchange have a statistically better neurological recovery with significance. They also have a faster recovery, decreased disability, and better quality of life.
