Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy

Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy is the latest surgical technology for scarless thyroid surgery.  Thyroid nodule is a common condition among Thais, especially more so in women than men.  Its causes include:

  • Overgrowth of cells in thyroid gland,
  • A cyst in thyroid gland,
  • Thyroid benign or cancerous tumor.

In some cases, the doctor may recommend a traditional surgery that leaves a scar on front of the throat, and patients may feel insecure about their appearances or even have difficulties performing their work.  So, many of them will choose to avoid the surgery which causes further delay in the diagnosis and treatment, resulting in potential long-term health issues.

Small Incision Under Armpit

The Ear Nose Throat Center at Bangkok Hospital is the first private hospital in Thailand to offer Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy.  It requires a skillful and experienced surgeon who specializes in endoscopic surgery, as a small incision is made under the armpit so that there is no visible scar in front of the throat.   Compared to the traditional procedure, Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy provides very satisfactory results for the patients since it is less painful and offers negligible risk to complications after the surgery.
