Does multiple myeloma only happen in patient aged over 65?

Answer: Advanced age substantially increases risk of multiple myeloma. Most patients are diagnosed in their mid-60s, especially 65-74. Nevertheless, multiple myeloma has been also found in younger age, less than 65. Statistical data reviews that up to 23% of patients diagnosed with multiple myeloma aged between 55-64. The incidence of multiple myeloma significantly reduces, less than 1% in patients aged younger than 35. Apart from age, other factors that may increase risk of multiple myeloma include being male, certain race e.g. African, family history and having other plasma cell diseases.
