Beware! Heat Stroke or “Sunstroke”
A silent danger from extreme heat that can be more life-threatening than you think
During this period of intense heat, don’t be careless! Observe yourself and those around you carefully
Warning symptoms
- Extremely high body temperature (with or without sweating)
- Confusion or incoherent speech
- Rapid heartbeat and breathing
- Dizziness or loss of consciousness
If these symptoms occur
- Move the person to a shaded or cool place immediately
- Loosen clothing to help release heat
- Wipe the body with cold water or apply cold compresses to the neck, armpits, and groin
- Take the person to the hospital as soon as possible
High-risk groups to be extra cautious
- Elderly people and young children
- Those who work outdoors or exercise under the sun for long periods
- People with underlying conditions such as high blood pressure or heart disease
Recognizing heat stroke early can increase survival chances
