Chiang Mai— Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai moves forward toward becoming an Innovation Hospital as the first private hospital in Chiang Mai Province to initiate a strategic collaboration in health innovation with a university, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Science and Technology Park, Chiang Mai University (STeP CMU) to jointly develop medical technologies and innovations that can be practically implemented in the healthcare service system.
This collaboration aims to build a health innovation ecosystem by linking the hospital’s expertise with the university’s research and technology knowledge to develop research and innovation projects arising from real operational problems in the hospital and extend them to real-world implementation in the healthcare service system. Under this collaboration, the two organizations will jointly develop medical research and innovation projects, such as technologies to enhance patient safety, systems to support the work of medical personnel, as well as the adoption of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and prototype medical devices to test and develop for practical use in the hospital.
Dr. Narin Boonjongcharoen, Group 4 Chief Executive Officer and Director of Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai said that Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai places importance on developing innovations to enhance the quality of care and patient safety. This collaboration with Chiang Mai University will help ideas and real problems arising in the hospital’s operations be developed into prototypes and real-world applications more quickly. As a result, people in the North will be able to access modern medical technologies and treatment innovations without having to travel to major cities, receiving more accurate, safer, and faster diagnosis and treatment. It will also help develop a healthcare service system that meets the needs of patients in the area and raise the region’s medical standards in the long term.
Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pitiwat Wattanachai, Director of the Science and Technology Park, Chiang Mai University said:
“STeP CMU plays a role in supporting innovation development, technology transfer, and linking knowledge from the university to the industrial sector. This collaboration with Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai will help drive the development of health technologies that can be practically utilized and create a positive impact on the country’s health system.”
This collaboration is therefore regarded as another important step in driving Chiang Mai Province toward becoming a health innovation hub for the North, while supporting the development of medical technologies through cooperation between the hospital and the university to sustainably improve the quality of life of the public.
