Bangkok Cancer Hospital Vattanostha is elevating its services to become a regional cancer treatment center, in collaboration with cancer institutes from the United States and Japan to enhance treatment efficacy.
Professor Dr. Teerawut Kuhaprema, Director of Bangkok Cancer Hospital Vattanostha, said that Bangkok Cancer Hospital Vattanostha has a policy to develop and upgrade services to become a regional cancer treatment center, in line with Bangkok Hospital’s policy which aims to be a healthcare hub of Asia-Pacific. In September 2015, the hospital imported a PET Scan, a tool used in cancer detection, to enhance the capability of treatments to be more modern, providing more accurate and clear results, and quickly responding to patients’ needs.
Statistics show that cancer is the leading cause of death among Thais, with a mortality rate increasing by 5% every year. The most common cancers found are liver, lung, and breast cancer, respectively. Bangkok Cancer Hospital Vattanostha, therefore, focuses on cancer treatment under a 360-degree care concept, from preventative education, risk detection, treatment, to palliative care.
In addition, there is cooperation with foreign institutions that specialize in cancer such as the MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States, and collaboration with Japan to create a heavy-ion radiation therapy device for localized cancer treatment. With the increasing number of patients, there are plans to continuously expand the number of beds to accommodate the number of patients.
Currently, in addition to Thai patients, there are also foreigners, especially from neighboring countries such as Myanmar and countries in the Middle East, as well as patient referrals from hospitals within the BDMS network.
