Bangkok International Hospital is Thailand’s first private specialty hospital dedicated to neurology, orthopedics, and spine care. Established in 2019 under the management of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited, the hospital operates under the philosophy that every treatment is an art, uniting artistry with advanced medical science to deliver the highest standard of patient care. The hospital’s holistic approach to healthcare nurtures well-being from within, which is particularly vital in a country where one person faces a stroke crisis every four minutes, requiring immediate medical intervention.
The Neuroscience Center at Bangkok International Hospital has treated more than 290,000 patients since 2021, comprising 60-70% of Thai nationals and 30-40% international patients, including 25,000 stroke patients to date. The Center is equipped with cutting-edge technologies to enhance treatment outcomes, including Interventional Suite, an operating suite for neurovascular conditions equipped with a Biplane CT Angiography providing three-dimensional visualization of the nervous system and blood vessels, and a 3-Tesla MRI scanner.
Stroke rehabilitation begins while patients are still in the Smart ICU, where modern medical technology enables faster neurological recovery and muscular strength restoration. This involves collaboration among patients, family members or caregivers, physicians, Stroke Nurse Coordinators, and a multidisciplinary team, all working together to achieve the shared goal of helping stroke patients return to as normal a life as possible with our Patient Centered Care philosophy. Patients also benefit from a Smart Hospital experience, with seamless access to personal medical information through the hospital’s application, complemented by premium services as part of a comprehensive approach to cerebrovascular healthcare.
The hospital’s commitment to excellence is reflected in various awards and accreditations. These include being named one of the Best Specialized Hospitals in Asia Pacific in Orthopedics and Neurology (2024-2025), and holding the Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) from the globally recognized Joint Commission International (JCI) for its Primary Stroke Program, maintained continuously since 2008. The hospital has also achieved Advanced Hospital Accreditation (Advanced HA) covering the period 2015 to 2029, reinforcing its dedication to advancing treatment quality, management expertise, and cutting-edge medical innovation.
Furthermore, in 2026, Bangkok International Hospital achieved ICHOM Accreditation Program Level 1 in Stroke Care from the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), demonstrating its commitment to Value-Based Healthcare with a focus on Patient-Centered Outcome Measures. This recognition emphasizes the hospital’s essential role in delivering patient-centric stroke care, ensuring that every patient has access to the highest standard of neurological treatment, while continuously striving to improve its services and care for the future.
Results Summary
The results of the hospital’s 90-Day Stroke Care and Rehabilitation Program reflect the depth of this commitment to Patient-Centered Care and Value-Based Healthcare in line with international standards. Patient follow-up results from before treatment (baseline) to 90 days post-treatment have shown statistically significant improvement across all dimensions of the EQ-5D-5L quality of life assessment, including mobility, self-care, return to daily activities, and reductions in pain, anxiety, and depression. Furthermore, the EQ VAS quality of life scores rose remarkably from 72.50% to 82.50%, with a decrease in the degree of functional impairment according to the Simplified Modified Rankin Scale (smRS).
On the clinical outcomes side, the stroke recurrence rate within 90 days was 5.47 percent, outperforming the benchmark threshold of below 10 percent. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary care system that integrates individualized rehabilitation, continuous post-discharge monitoring, and comprehensive patient education. Together, these elements support recovery, promote independence, and sustainably improve the long-term quality of life of stroke patients.
Receiving ICHOM Level 1 Accreditation in Stroke Care is a milestone that reflects our unwavering commitment to being a Center of Excellence in neurology and orthopedic specialty care. We are dedicated to delivering world-class care for both Thai and international patients with neurological conditions, bringing together the expertise of our multidisciplinary medical team, advanced medical technology, and innovative therapies. This accreditation affirms our approach of integrating patient goals and outcomes (PROMs) into every stage of care, supporting recovery across every dimension of a patient’s life. It is the heart of Value-Based, Patient-Centered Care and it drives us to continuously raise the standard of stroke prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, and to promote a better quality of life for every patient we serve.”
