In response to the ever increasing number of patients seeking medical care outside of their home countries, it has become essential for hospitals to undergo rigorous screening to ensure they meet international standards for healthcare services. The current leading body for such accreditation is Joint Commission International, a US-based organization widely seen as the gold standard for top-level healthcare service providers worldwide.
Hospitals seeking JCI accreditation are evaluated through stringent procedures, based on over 300 standards, including onsite inspections and personnel examinations. Only hospitals showing a strong commitment to continuously improving service quality and patient safety goals are awarded this distinction. Above all, the international standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in overall performance and outcomes.
Achieving JCI accreditation is not only an internal milestone, but also one for Thailand as a center of medical excellence. It officially recognizes that the practices of our doctors, nurses, medical assistants and the management team at Bangkok Hospital meet or exceed the standards of medical facilities in the US.
Bangkok Hospital is proud to join this select group of accredited hospitals worldwide, and fully embraces its culture of excellence and dedication to health, safety, and quality of life.
Joint Commission International Disease or Condition-Specific Certification
In 2002, Joint Commission International launched its Disease or Condition-Specific Certification (DCSC) – the first international program of its kind to certify disease management programs. To earn this distinction, a disease management program undergoes an extensive on-site evaluation by a team of Joint Commission International reviewers. The JCI Disease or Condition-Specific Certification is designed to provide a comprehensive evaluation program that can support healthcare providers in improving the safety and quality of their services.
Wattanosoth Cancer Hospital has received DCSC certification in the following areas:
• Breast Cancer Conserving Therapy Program
TEMOS is a global competence network of hospitals characterized by high quality standards in patient treatment, and the application of telemedicine for the exchange of knowledge with their network of certified hospitals to the millions of tourists requiring medical assistance every year. Bangkok Hospital was awarded certification as a TEMOS partner in 2007 following extensive evaluation of its international medical services, emergency rooms and intensive care facilities.
In an effort to raise national standards of medical care, the Institute of Hospital Quality Improvement & Accreditation of Thailand adopted an independent system for evaluating private and public hospitals. The key criteria for accreditation center on a patient-focused approach to healthcare with a commitment to continuous quality improvement both in terms of patient services and clinical practices. Bangkok Hospital was among the first private hospitals to receive this accreditation.
EURAMI accreditation was established to promote high quality aeromedical transfers and help ensure safe medical aid by air rescue and flight transportation services. The accreditation process includes evaluation of program capability, medical management and training, aircraft operations and logistics, communications, management policies, and quality control. Bangkok Hospital is the first EURAMI accredited medical facility in Asia.
The prestigious Asian Hospital Management Award is presented in part by Joint Commission International, John Hopkins Medicine International, and the International Hospital Federation in recognition of quality medical care. Bangkok Hospital is proud to have received the Patient Safety/Quality Medical Care award.
