Bangkok Spine Academy provides new surgical techniques including DLIF/OLIF, ALIF, and Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMP) for lumbar fusion surgery. BMP is a synthetic protein that stimulates bone formation (rhBMP-2). It has been used for lumbar interbody fusion since 2001 and now is widely used in spinal surgery.

Currently, Bangkok Spine Academy uses the latest minimally invasive spinal approach to surgery, known as O-Arm navigation. This technology allows the surgeon to have 3D real time imaging together with intraoperative monitoring (IOM) in order to prevent neurological damage during surgery.

Internationally, Bangkok Spine Academy is well regarded by surgeons as a center for exchanging knowledge and innovations in treatments and surgical techniques for treating pain in the neck and back.

Surgical treatment

Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) is faster, safer, and require less recovery time. Because of less trauma to the muscles, soft tissues and bone structure (compared to open procedures), the potential benefits are better cosmetic results, less blood loss, less injury to normal structures in the spine, lower rate of infection, faster recovery and less rehabilitation requireMicrodisectomy (procedure to remove part of herniated disc to relieve pressure caused by compressed spinal cords and nerves)

  • Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion
  • Cervical herniated disc surgery
  • Spinal decompression surgery by microscopic laminectomy
  • Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF)
  • Open Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (Open-TLIF)
  • Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (MIS-TLIF)
  • Oblique Lumbar Interbody Fusion (OLIF)
  • Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF) for patients with lumbar degenerative disease
  • Direct Lateral Interbody Fusion (DLIF) for the treatment of scoliosis and herniated disc (less damage to muscles, minimal blood loss, smaller incision, and faster recovery)
  • Endoscopic discectomy
  • Endoscopic decompression for the treatment of spinal canal stenosis and foraminal stenosis
  • Spinal fusion surgery

Radiating Leg Pain It Could Be Your SI Joint Acting Up!

Having lower back pain radiating to the leg does not always mean you have herniated disc. People with sacroiliac joint (SI Joint) dysfunction can experience similar pain. Therefore, proper diagnosis is crucial in order to identify the origin of the pain. A specialist can help diagnose your condition accurately and get you on the path for lasting relief.

Chronic back pain is a recurring condition that affects a person’s everyday life. Common conditions are herniated disc and spinal stenosis caused by deterioration due to aging. If the pain does not go away with conservative treatment, endoscopic discectomy, a kind of minimally invasive spine surgery, might be recommended.

Herniated disc is most often the result of heavy lifting, minor strain, or twist. The patient may experience pain in the lower back, radiating down the back of one leg. This affects patient’s everyday life. Microendoscopic discectomy is one of minimally invasive surgical treatment for this condition.

Back pain can be uncomfortable and debilitating. Most acute back pain gets better with a few weeks of home treatment. However, for many the pain does not go away for a long period and becomes chronic. This might be a result from herniated disc or spinal stenosis. Patients suffering from these conditions may be candidates for microscopic surgery.
