Preparing for Cosmetic Surgery: Are You Ready?
    Bangkok Hospital Siriroj
    Updated on: 12 Dec 2025

You’ve decided you want to have cosmetic surgery, but are you prepared to do so? Here are some questions to ask yourself courtesy of the medical professionals at Bangkok Hospital Siriroj: Phuket Plastic Surgery Institute.

    1. Have you carefully considered your decision?
Having any kind of surgical procedure is a serious decision that should not be taken lightly. This is one time not to act impulsively or rashly. Ask yourself honestly what you hope to achieve through this and what your expectations are. If there is a specific physical attribute that has bothered you for a long time? Do you have realistic expectations about how the procedure will change it? Do you think it will improve your confidence in yourself? Have you analyzed how this will impact other facets of your life? If so, go for it!

    2. Have you done all the research and consulted with one or more medical specialists?
Every cosmetic procedure has potential risks, side effects and consequences. It is important to have taken all of this into consideration before you enter the operating room. Also, remember that while general research and information can be helpful, it is not a substitute for a personalised consultation with a doctor about your specific body and needs.

    3. Have you arranged to take the proper amount of time off needed for recovery?
Your body needs to heal and it is important for you to be kind to it after surgery. Although some minimally invasive procedures such as injectable fillers may allow you to go back to work right away, you should budget ample recovery time for more serious procedures. When you schedule your appointment, also book time off at work.

    4. Are you physically healthy?
Before undergoing a surgical procedure, it helps to be in the best physical shape you can be. Take especially good care of your body in order to help it cope with the impact of surgery.

    5. Have you followed all of your doctor’s instructions?
Your doctor may have very specific directions for what you can or cannot do leading up to your surgical procedure. This will probably include asking you to refrain from eating or drinking for a period before undergoing anesthesia. Be sure to follow every direction precisely.
