Good health isn’t for sale… vaccines can help. Once a year is enough.”
Why do seniors need a flu shot?
1. Immunity declines with age.
As we age, our immune systems don’t function as well as they used to, making us more susceptible to influenza infection and slower recovery than in other age groups.
2. They are at risk for serious complications,
such as pneumonia, heart attacks, strokes, or exacerbations of underlying medical conditions, which can lead to hospitalization or death.
3. They reduce the chances of hospitalization and death.
Getting vaccinated can reduce the severity of illness and reduce the chances of death from influenza in seniors.
4. They protect those around them,
especially young grandchildren, family members, or those with underlying medical conditions, who may be infected by the elderly.
