Check your BMI with the BMI calculator.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a commonly used tool to roughly measure body fat and can screen for obesity and related health risks.

It can be calculated using a BMI calculator based on height and weight, and the results can be categorized into different groups, from underweight to obesity level 3.

BMI Calculator: Check your BMI now.

You can use the BMI calculator here to divide your weight in kg by your height in m and compare your result to the BMI scale. Enter your height and weight. Check your results in the table below. Click on your BMI level to learn more.

    BMI Classification
    Underweight: Below 18.5
    Normal Weight: 18.5-24.9
    Overweight: 25.0-29.9
    Obese: 30 and above
    Level I: 30.0-34.9
    Level II: 35.0-39.9
    Level III: 40 and above
    Why is BMI Important?

BMI is a great way to assess your risk for diseases related to body fat. Living with being overweight or obese is associated with an increased risk of death and other illnesses or conditions. In general, the higher your BMI, the greater your risk of developing obesity-related diseases or other chronic illnesses, including:

    Type 2 Diabetes
    High Blood Sugar Levels
    High Cholesterol Levels
    High Blood Pressure
    Infertility
    Depression and Anxiety
Cardiovascular Disease, such as Heart Attack
    Asymlipidemia
Metabolic Dysfunction-associated Steatohepatitis (MASH) / Metabolic Dysfunction-associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD)
    Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
    Metabolic syndrome (MetS)
    Urinary incontinence
    Sleep apnea and dyspnea
    Chronic kidney disease
Several types of cancer: including, but not limited to, breast cancer, colon cancer, endometrial cancer, esophageal cancer, kidney cancer, ovarian cancer, and pancreatic cancer
    Osteoarthritis
    Kidney stones
    Blood clots
    Gout
    Stroke

Please ask your doctor for more information about these conditions and their relevance to your BMI. You can also learn more about the health benefits of weight loss here.

    What is the BMI limit?

BMI is a simple and tangible measure, but it can be misleading in some cases and for certain groups. Research has shown that BMI is less accurate in predicting disease risk.

This is especially true for older adults, athletes, those who are very tall or short, and those with high muscle mass. For example, top athletes or bodybuilders have a lot of muscle and weight, resulting in a higher BMI.

Furthermore, BMI doesn’t take into account:

Genetic risk factors associated with obesity-related diseases, such as metabolic syndrome.
Environmental and lifestyle factors beyond obesity that can increase your risk of developing chronic diseases.
How body fat is distributed in an individual.

It’s important to remember that living with obesity doesn’t always mean you’re unhealthy. Just having a ‘normal’ weight doesn’t mean you’re healthy. Your BMI doesn’t define you.

But knowing and understanding your BMI can be a powerful tool for taking care of your own health.

Regardless of your BMI, experts recommend eating and living a healthy lifestyle, talking to your doctor about your weight and health,

and assessing what else can be done to improve your health.

How BMI and waist-to-height ratio can help manage heart health.

Those who are overweight or obese have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease (CVD), also known as heart disease.

While both BMI and the waist-to-height ratio (WtHR) can be used to assess an individual’s risk of developing cardiovascular disease,

WtHR is considered a more reliable predictor for assessing cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

BMI is used to identify an individual’s weight category based on height and weight. WtHR, on the other hand, is used to measure an individual’s body fat distribution.

Considering height and waist circumference, measuring WtHR is important because excess fat stored around the abdomen is associated with an increased risk of heart disease.

Knowing both your BMI and WtHR can help you improve your heart health by understanding whether actions should be taken to manage your weight.
