Ischemic Stroke: Know the Signs, Act Fast – Prevent Paralysis
Stroke / Cerebrovascular Disease
Ischemic stroke, or stroke (cerebrovascular disease), is a serious medical condition that can lead to paralysis or death if treatment is delayed. Many cases occur because patients ignore early symptoms and do not seek medical attention, assuming the condition is not serious.
Therefore, it is crucial to recognize the warning signs of stroke using the BEFAST principle.

What Is Ischemic Stroke?
Ischemic stroke occurs when the brain is deprived of blood supply due to narrowing, blockage, or rupture of cerebral blood vessels, resulting in insufficient oxygen delivery to brain tissue. This can cause brain cell death, and patients must receive immediate medical attention.
Common Causes
-
Fatty plaque buildup on blood vessel walls, leading to narrowing and loss of elasticity
-
Tears in the inner vessel wall, causing blood clots
-
Blood clots formed in the heart or heart valves that travel through the bloodstream and block cerebral arteries
If warning signs or risk factors are present, seek emergency care immediately.
