Change in Birth Registration ServiceEffective from 14 August 2026 onwards, Bangkok Hospital Phuket will discontinue its facilitation service for birth registration and the collection of birth certificates on behalf of families. Bangkok Hospital Phuket will, however, continue to issue birth certification documents based on the relevant medical facts as usual.
The father, mother, or any person legally responsible for registering the birth must personally submit the birth certification document and other required supporting documents to the relevant registration office to complete the birth registration process.
This change is in accordance with the Position Statement of the Royal Thai College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists entitled “The Role of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Issuing Birth Certification Documents and Preventing the Use of Medical Documents Beyond Their Intended Scope,” issued on 3 August 2026. The statement specifies that physicians are responsible for certifying only the medical facts related to the birth. Certification of paternity, biological relationships, and a person’s legal status must be determined based on supporting evidence and the procedures prescribed by the legally authorized authorities.
This is to ensure that the certification of births and civil registration processes are carried out accurately and appropriately, in accordance with the scope of professional practice and applicable laws.
