    Updated on: 19 Mar 2026

    Cause:

Chikungunya virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. People who are infected with Chikungunya virus will show symptoms similar to those who have dengue fever. However, Chikungunya does not often result in death.

    Symptoms:

    • Chikungunya afflicted patients experience acute fever which is usually 38-40 degrees
    • Headache
    • Rash and muscle pain
    • Nausea and vomiting
    • Weakness
    • Joint pain such as wrists, ankles, finger joints
    • Maybe some itchiness.

    Prevention:

    • Reduce the number of mosquitoes around homes and neighborhoods by finding and eliminating their breeding sites – stagnant water in wells, vases, and other containers.
    • As for personal prevention, wear long-sleeved shirts, wear long pants, use mosquito repellant, and take steps to kill mosquitoes.

Using chemicals such as pouring abate sand in stagnant water, using mosquito larvae killer spray, and spraying chemical substances in mosquito breeding sites.
