The Symptoms of the Cardiovascular Disease
    Bangkok Hospital Pattaya
    Updated on: 18 Sep 2025

Cardiovascular Disease (Stroke) is becoming more and more common and it is important that we know something about the initial symptoms of this disease. Stroke is a disease that affects the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain. Our brain is composed of four main parts: the Right cerebral hemisphere, the Left cerebral hemisphere, the Cerebellum and the Brain stem. Each part of the brain is responsible for different functions. When the different part of the brain is damaged, the symptoms also differ:

    1. The damage occurs at the Left cerebral hemisphere
The left cerebral hemisphere controls the movement on the right side of the body, speech and language recognition. The patients in this case will have muscle weakness on the right side of the body. Some may not be able to speak but hearing ability is normal. In a severe case, both the speech and the hearing ability can be lost.

    2. The damage occurs at the Right cerebral hemisphere
The Right cerebral hemisphere controls the movement on the left side of the body, the ability to estimate distance and position. The patients in this case will have muscle weakness on the left side of the body.

    3. The damage occurs at the Cerebellum
The cerebellum controls the balance system of the body and the muscular coordination. The patients in this case will experience the vertigo, lose the body balance, disequilibrium and vomiting.

    4. The damage occurs at the Brain stem
The brain stem is a gateway of the nerves that bring the command from the brain to other parts of the body. It also controls the breathing mechanism, blood pressure, and the pulse rate of the heart. The patients in this case will have muscle weakness of the limbs on one or both sides of the body.

Cardiovascular Disease can occur in people of any age and any gender. It can be prevented and may be curable. When you start to feel the initial symptoms such as numbness on the limbs, muscle weakness of the limbs, losing the body balance, it is important that you see a doctor as soon as possible. If the patients can come to the hospital within three hours after the attack, there will be more chance for a successful treatment and a full recovery.
