Bangkok Hospital Pattaya

According to the Department of Disease Control (DDC), Thailand has reported 7 rabies deaths this year—three times higher than during the same period in 2024. Cases occurred in Chonburi, Sisaket, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Ratchasima (2), Tak, and Rayong.

Key facts from DDC:

  • 90% of cases were transmitted by dogs, 10% by cats.
  • 164 animals have tested positive for rabies nationwide in 2025.
  • High-risk provinces include Ubon Ratchathani, Buriram, Songkhla, Surin, Maha Sarakham, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chachoengsao,
  • Chonburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Mukdahan.
  • What you should do if bitten, scratched, or licked by a dog or cat—even if the wound is minor:
  • Wash the wound with soap and water for 10–15 minutes.
  • Apply disinfectant.
  • See a doctor immediately to start rabies vaccination.
  • Observe the animal for at least 10 days.

Pet owners: Please ensure your dogs and cats receive annual rabies vaccinations. Protect your family, your community, and yourself.

Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms appear, but it is 100% preventable with timely vaccination.
