More and more Thais are experiencing vision problems, largely due to work habits that place heavy demands on the eyes — particularly among those who use electronic devices, computers, smartphones, and tablets throughout the day. Taking care of your eyes is something that should not be overlooked, especially in today’s digital age. If you find yourself straining your eyes all day long, it’s time to learn how to protect them before they deteriorate prematurely.
Ways to Protect Your Eyes
1. Eat foods rich in Vitamin A
- Liver
- Egg yolk
- Milk
- Butter
- Crab
- Fish liver oil
- Dark green or orange and yellow fruits and vegetables including:
- Morning glory
- Pumpkin
- Ivy gourd
- Spinach
- Chinese broccoli
- Broccoli
- Carrots
- Noni leaves
- Sweet basil
- Gotu kola
- Climbing wattle
- White popinac
- Bird’s eye chili
- Papaya
- Ripe mango
2. Rest your eyes after prolonged use — look into the distance for a while to give your eyes a break.
3. Wear sunglasses to protect against UV rays and excessive light exposure.
4. When your eyes feel tired or sore, gently massage around the eyebrows and eye sockets with your fingertips — avoid pressing directly on the eyelids.
5. Choose books printed on low-glare paper, and avoid reading while in a moving vehicle, as your eyes constantly have to readjust focus.
6. Watch TV from a distance of 4–5 times the width of the screen.
7. Always wear swimming goggles to protect your eyes from chlorine in the pool.
8. Ensure adequate lighting when doing close-up or detailed work, so your eyes don’t have to work harder than necessary.
9. Get an eye check-up once a year to monitor any changes in your vision and update your prescription lenses accordingly.
