How Syphilis Spreads
- Through unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex
- By direct contact with syphilitic sores, rashes, or mucous membranes
- From an infected mother to baby during pregnancy or childbirth (congenital syphilis)
How It Doesn’t Spread
- Not through casual contact like hugging or shaking hands
- Not by sharing toilets, clothing, cutlery, or swimming pools (unless there’s open wound contact)
