Get Ready to Quit Alcoholism

Have you ever considered your readiness to give up drinking alcohol? Most heavy drinkers will admit that they have tried, without success, to reduce their alcohol intake.

The Facts

  • Regular, excessive alcohol consumption can have a detrimental effect on one’s family, work and financial situation.

  • Research shows that up to 5 million Thais have a drinking problem and 1 million of them are young people. However, only 2% are in treatment for alcohol abuse. This is in the face of the noted negative health effects of excessive alcohol consumption, such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, and alcohol induced dementia.

  • Men should not drink more than 4 glasses a day and should avoid alcohol completely 2 days a week

  • Women should not consume more than 2 glasses a day and should avoid alcohol completely 2 days a week

  • Pregnant women and people with certain health conditions should avoid alcohol completely.

Are you consuming too much alcohol?

If you have strong cravings for alcohol, can’t control your drinking, show withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking and continue to drink despite health or other alcohol related problems, then you are in danger. If a relative, friend, or colleague has expressed concern about your drinking and maybe asked you to cut down, then it is time to get help.
