Keeping Children’s Teeth Healthy

Children’s Teeth, Dental caries

Dental caries is the most common infectious disease affecting Thai Children. Data from Bureau of Dental Health in 2017 shows that over 50% of Thai children have dental caries before kindergarten. A child's teeth are susceptible to decay as soon as they begin to erupt. A baby's primary teeth are important. Developmental stages that are imperative to the child's future dental health depends on them.

Dental caries can lead to:

  • Poor nutrition
  • Delayed growth
  • Delayed development
  • Pain, infection, swollen face, hospitalization

***Children having caries in their primary teeth were three times more likely to develop caries in their permanent teeth.

First dental visit

American Dental Association recommends to schedule the child's first dental visit within six months of eruption of the first tooth and no later than 1 year of age. This visit gives your child an opportunity to meet the dentist in a non-threatening and friendly way. The dentist will also educate parents about oral health care basics for children and fluoride needs.

It is important to note that good oral care begins from birth. Baby teeth can affect your child’s overall health and development. Your child can start getting cavities as soon as they have teeth, so get them in as early as you can. Your child’s smile will be healthy for life if you are proactive about their dental health now.
