“Memorandum of Understanding for the Exchange of Orthopedic Knowledge and Techniques between Bangkok Hospital’s Bangkok Orthopedic Center and Stanford University Department of Orthopedic Surgery”

On the 6th of August 2014, Bangkok Hospital signed a “Memorandum of Understanding for the Exchange of Orthopedic Knowledge and Techniques between Bangkok Hospital’s Bangkok Orthopedic Center and Stanford University Department of Orthopedic Surgery” with the aim of research collaboration and improving the efficiency of care with regards orthopedics.

Dr. Suthorn Bavonratanavech, Senior Director of the Bangkok Orthopedic Center at Bangkok Hospital indicates that Thailand is currently an aging society and as such we can expect to see a rise in conditions regarding the bones and joints. Examples of rising cases include osteoporosis, fracture as a result of osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis.

Although treatment of bone and joint conditions are provided by orthopedic surgeons, patients can often times experience complications after treatment such as deformities, paralysis, pain, or an inability to move as before. These problems may occur as a result of Over Treatment and vice-versa Under Treatment due to the surgeon’s lack of expertise or experience. Other issues can result from poor surgical equipment. Bone and joint conditions are complex and as such orthopedic surgeons must undergo extensive training and look to continuously improve to ensure efficient treatment.

On this occasion, Bangkok Hospital is happy to announce our cooperation with the Stanford Department of Orthopedic Surgery through a memorandum of understanding for the exchange of orthopedic knowledge and techniques. Our two organizations are committed to providing and maintaining quality care and excellence in orthopedic services. The agreement includes cooperation with regards to education, research, and seminars/conferences for the development of medical staff.

Furthermore, Bangkok Hospital is well-equipped with the latest medical equipment and technologies with specialized medical personnel to provide care and treatment services that adhere to international standards.
