Dual Tension Band Wiring (DTBW):
Advancing Orthopedic Treatment Standards to the Global Stage
From the Orthopedic Center of Excellence, Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai, Thailand – Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai proudly announces a groundbreaking achievement in orthopedic surgery. The research conducted by Professor Emeritus Teerachai Apiwattanakakul, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon at the Orthopedic Center of Excellence, has been published in the prestigious European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology 2025, marking another milestone that highlights the hospital’s global expertise in orthopedic care.
The study, titled “Dual Tension Band Wiring for Adolescent Supracondylar Fractures of the Humerus: Mechanical Assessment and a Clinical Series”, introduces Dual Tension Band Wiring (DTBW) – an innovative technique for treating adolescent supracondylar fractures of the humerus, a challenging condition in children aged 10–15 years.
DTBW is designed to provide symmetric compression and superior stability, reducing complications and accelerating recovery when compared with standard techniques such as Lateral Divergent Pinning (LDP), Cross Pinning (CP), and Dual CP. Findings confirmed that DTBW offers the best mechanical performance and the most effective outcomes in restoring elbow function. Read the full article here
