While we are enjoying our daily lives, with your beloved ones, creating journey from place to place, cherishing prosperous business achievement and future opportunities, have you ever listened to the Tick Tock sound in yours? Without any warning signs, someone might have a time bomb working and waiting silently for the day to manifest itself at an unexpected time! …Boom!  This, aka “Cerebral Aneurysm” in the medical field, is having high destructive power which causing the death rate as high as 50%!

If you are a woman at the age of 40, it is riskier at you more than at men of the same ages, with a ratio of 1:6. In fact, a Cerebral Aneurysm commonly finds as well as it is a significant problem for people aged 40-60 years. The causes are a weakening in the artery wall due to the degeneration of blood vessels, a buildup of fats covering the artery wall, effects of pressure from the pulsation of blood pumped forward through the arteries. As a result, the weakening wall of the artery becomes a bulge, like a blown enormous balloon, which risks a breakage. When a patient has a Rupture Aneurysm, it causes severe bleeding leading to a high death rate. On the other hand, there will be a death rate of only 2-3% in the case of the aneurysm can be found before the rupture.

    Watch Out!

We know that the risk of Cerebral Aneurysm depends on the size, position, shape, age, and gender of the patient as well as health and family health history. However, if you have lifestyle habits or congenital diseases as follows, you might be at risk!

    –         Smoking

    –         Alcohol abuse

    –         Hypertension

    –         Hyperlipidemia

    –         Regularly contraception pill

Listen to warning signs in yours!

It is unfortunate that, in general, this silent executioner does not give any noticed symptoms. Once the blood vessels rupture, it will abruptly indicate symptoms such as having an intense headache, which never occurs before. You may feel like the head will explode soon. Besides, some patients will have nausea, vomit, and a stiff neck. In the case of being in a critical condition, the patient will have drowsiness, loss of consciousness until it stops breathing.

    How we treat you?

    Treatments for Ruptured Cerebral Aneurysm

When detecting a ruptured aneurysm, the key to treatment is to cut off the blood to flow into the saccular aneurysm.

    1. Microsurgical Clipping, a procedure using clip to stop blood flow into the aneurysm, is the most commonly used method.
    2. Coil Embolization, a procedure using a wire and pass coils through the catheter to close off the aneurysm, is used in case of not be able to have surgery. This procedure depends on the position and size of the aneurysm.

    Treatments for Unruptured Cerebral Aneurysm

Our multidisciplinary team, consisting of a neurosurgeon together with a radiologist, will closely discuss appropriate treatment for each patient. There are three procedures as following.

    1. Microsurgical Clipping
    2. Coil Embolization
    3. In case of small Aneurysms (size < 7 mm.), which have a low risk to rupture, will be periodically monitored with Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) to detect any growth. Once they are lager, any treatment will occur.

No matter how dangerous the disease has, we can “dismantle the time bomb” of Cerebral Aneurysms by having an annual health check-up, controlling risk factors, and getting an early diagnosis of Cerebral Aneurysms. It is to receive the treatment from the beginning till it becomes mitigated and safe. Of course the death rate is lower by that.
