Dr. Methinee Maipang Vice President of the Administration Group 1 and Director of Bangkok Hospital said that Bangkok Hospital, Head Office, has used the budget of 100 million baht to invest in automatic drug dispensing machines for patient safety, using artificial intelligence (AI) to dispense medication to inpatients (IPD) and outpatients (OPD) accurately and precisely, reducing errors in the medication dispensing process. Paired with the Smart Mobile Medication Cart to reduce contamination and increase the safety standards so patients receive the right person, right drug, and right time. Currently, there are 3 machines in the main building i.e., Bangkok Hospital and Bangkok International Hospital, serving 11 hospital wards accommodating more than 10,000 medication orders/per day
Pharmacist Urai. Aiewsihok Director of Pharmacy at Bangkok Hospital revealed that patient safety is the most important thing in every treatment process. The outdoor patient (OPD) automatic drug dispensing machine is highly efficient, capable of holding up to 220 types of loose pills, dispensing 15 slots simultaneously in a non-touch, enclosed system preventing cross-contamination of different drugs, making the process quicker and more accurate for patients. The indoor patient (IPD) automatic dispensing machine is the first new model in Thailand. Its most notable feature is the ability to prepare medications in the unit dose format, including small-sized injection and inhalation medications
both loose pills and blister packs, especially blister packs cut into individual pills in their original Blister, down to each pill count, dispensing specific patient medication sets per doctor’s orders daily, recording dispensing data, medication amount used and remaining sorted by patient, and including Barcode information on the drug lot, production, and expiration dates for easy inspection and recall in case of drug issues, administered to patients via a Smart Medication Cart, an innovation that integrates digital technology into medication carts, enhancing nurse and patient verification before delivery, thereby increasing accuracy for safely treating patients at Bangkok Hospital
