The number 1 deadly threat that claims the lives of many Thais is cancer, which has long held the title for the highest mortality rate among Thai people. Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth celebrated its 8th anniversary, aiming to develop the quality of cancer patient care in all dimensions. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they introduced a Mobile Digital Mammogram project for breast cancer screening.

Over the past 8 years, Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth has provided patient care with quality standards of medical personnel, interdisciplinary, and treatment technology in every dimension. With dedication in the quality of diagnosis, treatment, and care for both physical and mental health, along with providing good guidelines for cancer prevention which is to reduce the risk of cancer.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth has thus organized a CSR project to provide mobile digital mammogram screening for the public in 5 districts of Bangkok Metropolitan Area. The service will begin in February 2016 to welcome World Cancer Day and join the campaign against the danger of breast cancer for women.

Breast cancer arises from the abnormal growth of breast tissue cells, which the body cannot control, allowing these abnormal cells to grow rapidly and possibly spread to other organs. Women aged 35 – 40 years and above should undergo annual screening by having a physician inspect the breasts along with performing a digital mammogram and ultrasound that can detect abnormalities in detail from a small size (only 0.5 – 1 centimeter), ensuring accurate diagnostic results.

In addition, the Breast Cancer Pathway of Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth focuses on care throughout the program by specialized medical teams in each branch, providing knowledge on self-care, the process and steps of treatment, and following the treatment program to achieve good treatment outcomes for patients and support breast cancer patients to continue to have a good quality of life.

Professor Dr. Teerawut Kuhaprema, Director of Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth, said that for over 8 years since the hospital opened and treated patients, they have operated under the concept of “Total Cancer Care in every dimension of cancer patient care, focusing on comprehensive cancer treatment under the principles of “prevention, discovery, diagnosis, effective treatment, and rehabilitation of both physical and mental health” with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life for patients. The interdisciplinary medical team includes, for example, radiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, pathologists, surgical oncologists, radiologists, medical oncologists, hemato-oncologists, psychiatrists, pain management physicians, etc., including medical personnel such as specialized cancer nursing teams, dietitians, and physical therapists.

Furthermore, Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth has established the Wattanosoth Early Detection Center for Personalized Early Detection to provide services to people of all nationalities by preventing and identifying individual risks of cancer (Personalized), assisting patients to receive treatment early after cancer is detected, thus improving treatment efficiency and the chances of recovering from cancer.

Screening for Specific Cancer is a widely recognized and highly beneficial method for screening cancer in individuals who are at risk or concerned about cancer. It is of great importance in preventing diseases. At the same time, if cancer is detected at an early stage, it can greatly increase the patient’s chances of recovery from cancer and allow individuals with cancer to live longer, quality lives.
