Brain Surgery Planning and Navigation Instruments (Image Guided Surgical System) are tools that assist in pre-surgical planning by integrating various patient data such as Computerized Tomography (CT-SCAN), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and signals from surgical instruments used during the procedure. The system has signal conversion and data processing capabilities, displaying the results on a screen as three-dimensional images. This aids both in pre-surgical planning and in guiding the direction during the surgery (before and during surgery), making the surgery more efficient.

    General Features

    1. Simulation of surgery for the purpose of surgical planning by displaying images on the screen in various formats according to the surgeon’s needs, and using it as a guideline in actual surgeries.

    2. The tool aids in determining direction during surgery enabling faster operation due to its accuracy, hence increasing surgical efficiency.

    3. Suitable for various surgical procedures such as neurosurgery, spinal surgery, ENT surgeries, and orthopedics.

    4. The instrument set consists of 3 main components:

    • A source of signal that emits infrared light to hit the receiver connected to the camera system,
    • The camera system (Camera System) captures the reflected position of the signals,
    • The computer system (Computer Workstation) that controls the operation and processes data from the received signals at defined positions and other patient data, showing the results on the monitor (Monitor) in three dimensions to guide surgery, displaying the accuracy zone in millimeters around the targeted surgical area.

    5. Links data from various sources such as Ultrasound, MRI, CT-SCAN, C-arms, and patient data transmitted through the network, and can work together with the microscope camera to allow effective surgeries through camera-assisted visuals in three dimensions.

    6. Various software programs allow performing a variety of surgeries such as Cranial, Spine, Skull base, ENT, metal plating and screwing in orthopedics, knee and hip replacements, brain biopsies for analysis, treatments for tremors or spasms, among others, including rapid patient data entry (Rapid Registration).

    7. Features equipment systems designed to work with surgical instruments, either Active Instrument type which receives signals allowing the camera to capture directions and data, or Passive Instrument type which can transmit and receive signals with the camera system.

    8. An Electro Magnetic System in case of an upgrade is needed to use the tools in areas where magnetic interference is undesirable.

    9. The operating system uses UNIX, which is well-suited for graphic-type programs and is mostly used with large databases.

    10. The computer operation is standalone, used for surgical planning and paired with the camera (Navigation) system, featuring a scrolling system for easy maneuverability.
