Muscle and nerve disorders
The nervous system and muscles are interconnected. When nerves transmit signals from the brain to the muscles, the body can move normally. Disorders of the nervous and muscular systems therefore have a significant impact on the body, the most common being inherited muscle weakness. Close care and treatment by specialized physicians can effectively slow disease progression, because some neuromuscular disorders cannot be completely cured but treatment can improve quality of life.
Muscle and Nervous System Disorders
- Myasthenia Gravis (Myasthenia Gravis) An autoimmune disorder disrupts nerve signal transmission at the junction between nerve endings and muscles, causing muscle weakness drooping eyelids and, if symptoms are severe, can be serious enough to cause respiratory failure
- Motor Neuron Disease (Motor Neuron Disease – MND) A neurological disorder that gradually destroys motor neurons. It often begins with muscle weakness in the hands, arms, legs, and voice, and symptoms worsen with age.
- Peripheral Neuropathy Damage to peripheral nerves that can range from mild to severe and may cause muscle weakness or reduced sensation in the hands, feet, or arms
Our Services
Neuromuscular Services (Neuromuscular) The Brain and Nervous System Center at Bangkok Hospital International can test nerves and muscles electrically (Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies) to assess the function of peripheral nerves and muscles at affected sites, in order to plan treatment tailored to each patient’s symptoms and severity. We offer a team of specialized physicians and an experienced multidisciplinary team, together with lifestyle modification guidance, to help restore a better quality of life.
