Eyes (Ophthalmology)

 

Treatments available to eye diseases are as follow:

  • Phacoemulsification is a process which cataracts are broken up by sound wave
  • Implant is an artificial lenses following the removing of a cataract or to improve the eye’s refractive power
  • Opthamology surgical procedures are categorized into two subdivision as follow:

  • Oculoplastics is a range of reconstructive surgical procedures of the eye area including eyelid disorders like droopy and baggy eyelids; tear drainage system dysfunctions; and problems with the orbit, including fractures and reconstructive surgery
  • Refractive eye involves correcting mild-to-moderate nearsightedness (a condition that concerns difficulty in seeing things that are far away). A successful refractive eye surgery can reduce or cure common vision disorders such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Various methods of refractive surgery involve remodeling of the cornea or cataract surgery with most common method used today is an excimer lasers to reshape curvature of the cornea:
    • The treatments involve using an instrument called a keratome to lift a piece of tissue from the surface of the cornea. Patients may feel of some pressure or discomfort during the procedure
    • The laser is used to change the shape of the surface of the cornea. Staring at the light for about one minute will be required to help keep patient’s eye in one spot while this the procedure is in process
    • The tissue will be lifted back into place after the laser treatment. The surgical procedure takes no more then thirty minutes and patients both eye can be treated in one session
