Name: Mrs. Sutika Wichienphan
Nationality: Thai
Location: Bangkok
Mrs. Wichienphan had frequently felt the discomforts and heard what sounded like two objects grinding against one another whenever she would bend or exert pressure unto her knee.
At her first visit to Bangkok Hospital’s Bone & Joint (Orthopedics Surgery Department), she was diagnosed by arthroscopy. The procedure examines and repair damages to the internal areas of the joint with the aid of a microscopic viewing device. The diagnosis revealed that the patient required a small incision to remove fluid from her knees.
"I really wasn’t sure if the technology and the treatments that have been prescribed to me would make any difference. When you’re 60 years old, you begin to believe and at times, accept that some health complications are the direct conditions of the aging," said Mrs. Wichienphan with signs of hope for cure.
A month after the removal of the fluid from her right knee Mrs. Wichienphan was back to walking normal again.
After several years of living overseas, Mrs. Wichienphan returned to Thailand to check her other (left) knee which had become inflamed and was damaging the linings of the joints. She was diagnosed by her former surgeon that she was suffering from Osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis, a type of arthritis that happens when the cartilage breaks down and may eventually degenerate in one or more joints. The damaged or missing cushioning of the cartilage causes the connecting joints to grind and inflict pain during movements.
'After several meetings and discussions of the treatment procedure for the Total Knee Replacement with my doctor (Dr. Krirati Charoencholwanich, Speciality of Orthopaedic Surgery) , I felt reassured that the treatment would not only ease the swell in my knee but also provide better mobility,'added Mrs. Wichienphan as she nodded, recollecting her conversation with her doctor.
'I’m very happy with the results of my surgery and I would like to thank my doctor and the nursing teams that gave me great care and made my stay especially welcoming,' she added.
Mrs. Wichienphan was released two days after her knee replacement surgery and has been actively exercising with the rehabilitation personnel at Bangkok Hospital’s specialized rehab center.
