Colorectal cancer, also called colon or large bowel cancer, refers to cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. The diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy. Therapy is usually through surgery, which in many cases is followed by chemotherapy.
Treatment is often offered through a team of specialists, which may include a gastroenterologist, surgeon, medical oncologist, and radiation oncologist. Several different types of treatment are used to combat colorectal cancer.
