Brief description:
Nephroblastoma (or Wilms Tumor) is the most common kidney tumor affecting young children. It mostly affects one kidney, making it possible to remove it and save the healthy one. Occasionally the disease may be associated with some form of birth defects e.g. urinary tract, iris etc. Like many other cancers, there is no known cause of Wilms tumor. Symptoms include abdominal swelling, blood in urine, failure to grow, recurrent infections etc. There is no medical cure for the disease and surgery is the only option if the tumor remains localized.
