Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS)
When you are ill, injured or in pain you want the best possible medical care and of course as quickly as possible. Bangkok Hospital Medical
Center (BMC) in association with Bangkok Airways (PG) is now offering the first Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in Thailand. BMC is the flagship hospital in the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services group of hospitals and this new service links the hospitals even closer together, enabling patients to be transported from almost any localtion in South East Asia to any of the hospitals in the group.
The BMC Helicoper Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) was inaugurated in September 2007 as the first commercially life-saving certified HEMS ever
offered in South East Asia. The service provision utilizes the twin-engine
helicopter model EC 145 specially configured and certified for EMS operations.
This helicopter will always be operated in a dual-pilot mode of FAA Category A (ICAO
Class I) Operations with VFR/IFR capability of both day- and night-time flights
including poor weather conditions.
The medical team comprises of the certified
and experienced aviation medicine physicians and a registered nurse with
critical care and emergency nursing experiences. The service provision includes
on-site patient medical treatment and patient stabilization, air ambulance of
point-to-point patient transfer, and medical logistics of equipment/supplies and
personnel. Territories of operations cover all provinces in Kingdom of Thailand
and neighboring Indochina counties including maritime areas.
BMC, located on Petchburi Rd., Bangkok is the 24-hour base of operations for the central
command, and tertiary medical care logistics and support.
Bangkok Helicopter Services owns and operates the helicopter registered as HS-BHS
model EC 145 powered by two engines (Turbomeca Arriel 1 E2) for greatest level
of flight safety.
HS-BHS comes with sophisticated avionics and flight
instrument such as glass cockpit, MEGHAS FCDS VOR/ILS, AFCS, ADF/DME, GPS/NAV/COM
and RDR Weather radar. All BHS pilots are Type Rating IFR Cat A Operations
for 24 hour 7 day a week.
HS-BHS is a first EMS helicopter in South East Asia for
medical services; installed on-board with certified Advanced Life Support
equipments and attended by certified aviation medicine doctors and certified
flight nurses. All medical crewmembers are highly skilled in acute care of
trauma, cardiac, neonatal, obstetrics, pediatrics, burn care, and emergency
cases.
