Q & A ( Dental Implant )

Bangkok Hospital Dental Center

Q: I am missing one of my front teeth, and I am thinking about having a dental implant done. Could you tell me about the procedure?

A: The dental implant Procedure consists of three stages. First the patient undergoes an evaluation including X-rays, and a treatment plan is developed. The patient then has the implant inserted into the jawbone, and the bone is left to heal and form around the implant for 3-6 months. The patient can return to normal eating habits during this healing period. The second stage involves making an incision into the gum and attaching an abutment so that the prosthetic tooth can be attached later. The gum is then allowed to heal for 2-3 weeks. During the third stage an impression is taken so the crown or other prosthetic device can be created. After about a week, the prosthetic tooth is attached to the abutment and a follow up appointment is arranged.

Q: I have a cracked tooth. Should I have it removed in my country and have an implant done later in Thailand or should I have the whole procedure done in Thailand?

A: It is better to have the tooth removed in your country and come to Thailand at least four months later. After tooth removal, the root socket will need about four months to heal completely.

Q: What is the implant system you are using?

A. We use the endosseous system in which titanium, an inert metal, bonds with the jaw like the roots of a natural tooth in a process called osseointegration. The proprietary system we use is the Branemark System, a process certified by the American Dental Association.
