Digital Mammogram
A Digital Mammogram:
- is a special x-ray from which patients receive lower radiation
- It is able to tell the difference between different types of fat and layer
tissue of the breast with the highest available accuracy
- It is able to detect early stages of CA tissue or early stages of cancer
- It has an accuracy of up to 90%
- It is far more efficient than the conventional mammogram machine
Benefits of Digital Mammogram
- Digital mammogram can reduce radiation between 30-60%
- It is a continuing process of taking photo so there is no need to change the films and slides as before
- Once the patient has finished the digital mammogram the results will be shown on the screen for a radiologist
to read. This eliminates the time for developing films
- When the digital pictures are not clear, a digital image can adjust the contrast
of the pictures automatically. Radiologists can zoom in and out and adjust the
picture to make it clearer.
- The digital image allows radiologists to select more pictures
and detect the spot of the CA more accurately
- Pain is eliminated with the use of digital mammogram.
The pressure from the machine on the breast is
far more gentle than that of a normal mammogram.
- It is 20-25 % more accurate in detecting CA (cancer cell)
- The results are available immediately - no
need to wait for the films to be developed.
