Cardiac CT (CT Angiogram)

bangkok hospital procedures

Brief description:

This is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that assesses coronary arteries by taking a series of high speed and high precision CT images of the heart. It is usually accompanied by a Calcium Score for producing an evaluation. Unlike a conventional Cardiac Angiogram (CAG), the procedure does not require puncturing the femoral or radial artery, insertion of a cardiac catheter, or hospitalization. It is less costly and a viable alternative to CAG for the diagnosis of coronary artery blockage and other diseases.

Target group:

Patients with suspected blocked coronary blood vessels. Most are over 40 years of age; male more than female. Many of the patients have diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

Key issues:

  1. Selection of patients with right indications since conventional CAG is better and offers opportunity for PTCA in the same setting
  2. Can do on patients with known allergy to certain dyes, sea fish or drugs
  3. Minimum risk or complication
  4. Expert interpretation of CT Angiogram results
  5. Overall safety and success

Duration of hospitalization: Not necessary

Post-op recovery: Not necessary

Fit to fly (after operation): No limitation for flying

Number of cases done: XXXXX (as of 2007)

Cutting edge in BMC:

  1. One of the first Cardiac CT in the country
  2. Very experienced cardiac imaging specialists to avoid risk and complications as well as give proper interpretation of diagnosis.
  3. Fully equipped to deal with any complications including emergency open heart operation if warranted.
  4. World class facilities for PTCA or CABG (coronary bypass surgery) that may be required if any blocked arteries are found.
