The Bangkok Hospital LASIK Center

If you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism (Astigmatism blurs vision at all distances because the optical parts of the eye (cornea and lens) do not focus light onto the retina clearly), a laser beam created by state-of-the-art equipment at the Bangkok Hospital LASIK Center can help correct your problem. LASIK is an acronym for Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, a form of laser surgery on the eye that has become popular throughout the world. We at the Bangkok LASIK Center are committed to serving people in need of eyesight correction. Our Center is equipped with world standard technology, operated by a well-trained staff and closely supervised by our medical specialists to ensure your safety and satisfaction.

How LASIK surgery works

At our Center we use equipment developed by VISX®, a company recognized throughout the world for bringing innovation and breakthrough technology to laser vision correction. With VISX’s CustomVue Procedure, a new standard in laser vision correction has been established, providing a precise level of measurement and correction never before possible. Just like a fingerprint, every human eye is different, and by using VISX’s WaveScan technology, the CustomVue Procedure measures the unique features of each eye. This new level of measurement provides 25-times more precision than measurements using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses. The WaveScan technology then creates a distinct and unique ‘correction map’ for each eye tested. The map is then translated into a set of specific directions that WaveScan transfers to the laser, providing a level of precision and accuracy not previously possible.

The surgery itself involves creating a flap to expose the cornea, which is then gently reshaped with a cool beam from the laser. This process removes microscopic amounts of tissue to create a new curvature. The entire procedure typically takes several seconds and the majority of individuals feel no discomfort.

What to expect with a LASIK operation

The laser vision correction process begins with a doctor consultation at our center to verify eligibility for treatment. An evaluation follows to assess your overall health and to measure and create a detailed and unique map of your eyes. Once confirmed that you are a good candidate for laser vision correction, the procedure can be scheduled. On the day of the procedure, anesthetic drops will be placed in your eyes and the unique correction information for eyes will be transferred to the laser. You will then have your eye immobilized with a corneal suction ring and a flap will be created revealing the stroma, or center of the cornea. A laser beam, using the information obtained for your eye, will then reshape your cornea. When the process is completed, generally in matter of seconds, the flap will be carefully replaced by the surgeon. Natural adhesion will hold the corneal flap in place, though certain activities, such as swimming, should be avoided. Directly after the procedure, you will be given anti-inflammatory and antibiotic eye drops. Many patients notice immediate results, and vision continues to improve over several days. Routine follow up visits complete the process.

The VISX® CustomVue Procedure produces impressive results

VISX® lasers have been used to perform millions of laser vision correction procedures throughout the world. No general harmful effects have been noted and the results have been impressive. One year after the CustomVue Procedure, patients in one clinical study reported these impressive results without glasses or contact lenses:

100% could pass driving test
98% could see 20/20 or better
70% could see better than 20/20

In another study, four times as many people were satisfied with their night vision after the procedure as compared to their previous night vision when wearing spectacles or contact lenses.
