You should know the name of the vaccine and the possible side effects
from your pediatrician, in order to give good and proper care for your
child.
- Some vaccine must be give morn than one time, with booster doses for optimal protection, you should follow every appointment.
- If
you child has fever on the appointment date, you should postpone the
vaccine until recovery. If your child has only mild common cold and
does not have fever, the vaccine can be given.

After some vaccinations., your child might have fever for 1 - 2 days.
To comfort your child use a warm sponge or give antipyretics according
to the doctor suggestion.
B.C.G. VACCINE
A B.C.G. vaccine is
given shortly after birth. After 3-4 weeks, the injection site may
become red, and it might fester off and on, and may even discharge
fluid. Clean the area with 70% alcohol and normal saline twice a day
after bathing. The lesion will subside and become a small scar, about
2-3mm., after4-6 weeks.
DPT AND OPV VACCINE
A child with fever or diarrhea should wait until recovery before receiving DPT and OPV vaccines. After DPT injection, a child might have fever, pain and swelling on the injection site, which may last 1-2 days.
MUMPS-MEASLES-RUBELLA VACCINE (M.M.R.)
M.M.R. Vaccine should be given because these diseases can have serious complications.
MUMPS : Encephalitis in infants, Sterilely in men, Never Deafness.
MEASLES : Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Ear Infections, Encephalitis, Diarrhea, Malnutrition
RUBELLA : Fever, Lymphodenopathy, Rash, Arthirtis, Rubella injection in early pregnancy may cause congenital malformation.
This vaccine should be given to children and woman before they become pregnant
7-14 days after vaccination the child may develop for, or rash for 2-3 days Medicine for fever may be given.
