Implants in dentistry can be classified
into 2 categories :
1. Intraoral or Dental Implant
2. Extraoral Implant for Maxillofacial Prosthesis
Dental Implant is made from titanium and is designed to be
used in place of the natural dental root.
INDICATIONS FOR DENTAL
IMPLANT TREATMENT
- When the patient prefers not to use or not able to wear
removable denture.
- In the case where the patient may have lost only 1-2
teeth, dental implant could be a desirable alternative in
place of traditional dental bridge because it does not require
any reformation of adjacent teeth.
- In the case where the patient may have lost more than
a few teeth, dental implant can be used as additional structural
support for the bridge which would then require less numbers
of natural teeth to be reconfigured to form foundation for
the bridge.
- In the case where the patient is wearing removable full
denture, dental implant can provide additional support for
the denture.
